Inspired by the curiosity of unknown intelligence, my octopus, a creature whose alien intelligence evolved along completely different paths from fascination and fear. I paralleled this fear and curiosity with Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, where early anxieties about physical differences shape later emotional dynamics. The octopus, with its fluid form and otherworldly nature, symbolizes this psychological tension. By blurring the familiar and the alien, the images provoke both recognition and unease, embodying Freud’s concept of the uncanny — something both known and unsetting.
