Stone On Stone

Chicago,2023

In this work, I use photography to print images of stones onto the stones themselves. This seemingly absurd act reflects humanity's impulse to intervene in nature and assert our existence. Photography serves human meaning, while nature's value lies in its mere being. Do we need to document a stone when it stands before us? By printing long-lasting images on enduring stones, this act mirrors humanity's futile race against nature. Over decades or centuries, the stones may remain, but the images will fade, proving our inability to conquer nature's power.

The stone is ultimately chosen by the viewer. Take it away, keep it or bring it back to nature. This is once again putting the choice back to the public. They can choose to leave the stone behind and treat the piece as a work of art, or they can take the stone back into nature. Some of the stones currently exist in the United States, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, China, etc.
